There is an appealing background to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is not legal. Eight casinos are based in a relatively small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent spot, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and despite the fact visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat casino, contains 150 slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel compound that highlights numerous comforts aside from the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight tables.
