There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino betting is not allowed. Eight casinos are based in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the common tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that highlights a number of luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
